What is the
KVN? |
| KVN (a russian acronym
for "A Club for the Funny and the Resourceful") was a popular
game show in Soviet Russia. A cross between the scripted
"Saturday Night Live" and the improvisational "Whose Line Is It
Anyway", the game has several rounds of competition between any
number of teams. The teams are told the theme of the next
competition in advance and so have a chance to prepare a skit
for the rehearsed portions and some ideas for the improv.
responses. The point of the game is to be funny and think on
your feet while offering social commentary. |

How did it come the US? |
| In the US, the KVN was
revived as a game between colleges. Today, almost every college
with a Russian student body has a KVN team. Competitions are
held in Boston, New York as well as other US cities. Although
the teams speak Russian, the theme of the games as well as most
of the jokes are directed at Russo-American culture. |

How does RSM fit in? |
| Recently, a junior KVN
league was formed among the various high schools in Boston.
Based on the college version, it allows high school aged kids
the same chance to act and think on their feet while speaking
from their unique perspective. The last competition was
between: Brookline, Lynn, and RSM. RSM tied for 1st place. |
