RSM-Winchester, one of the newest branches of the Russian School of Mathematics in Massachusetts, opened its doors in 2013. Located across from a town park, not far from historic downtown Winchester, the RSM school opened in response to strong demand for after-school math enrichment in Winchester and the surrounding communities of Arlington, Burlington, Belmont, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham, Reading, Wakefield, and Woburn. The math school will also provide greater convenience for local students who had been commuting to RSM-Lexington or RSM-Newton!
As a branch of the Russian School of Mathematics, our mission is to help our K-12 students build a solid math foundation and develop the critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout their lives. We achieve this through a combination of great curriculum and exceptional teaching.
About the Principal
Maria & Dmitry Gofshteyn
Education: MS in Mathematics, Computer Science & Microbiology
Dmitry and Maria enrolled their son into RSM in 1998, the second year of the school's existence. After graduating from the school in 2003, he went on to matriculate at Brown University, and now works at a hedge fund in New York City. Dmitry and Maria have remained passionately involved in the RSM community after their son's graduation and, in 2013, are opening RSM's newest branch in Massachusetts: RSM-Winchester.
With more than 50 years of combined experience between them in the hard sciences, Dmitry and Maria believe that an early start in mathematics is critical to future success no matter what the career choice. And as parents they believe that a good education in math is one of the greatest assets that can be bestowed to our children.
Dmitry graduated from Gorky University with honors with a joint Masters Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, and had experience both in the academic and professional spheres before moving to the United States and working across a wide range of high-tech software development companies in the Boston area.
Maria attended Gorky University where she received a Masters Degree in Microbiology, and went on to teach the subject at the university level before moving to the US and shifting to laboratory work. After 20 years she is returning to her roots at RSM as an educator and co-principal. She too has found her solid background in math to be invaluable in her later work, and that has fueled her passion in opening the Winchester branch of RSM.
